What is U-Nica and what does it do?

U-Nica is a non-profit organization whose concept was inspired through the experience of a George School sponsored service trip. For over 15 years George School students have traveled to the community of Barrio Riguero in Managua, Nicaragua, to volunteer their time and services at their sister school, El Centro Educativo Nicaragüita, affectionately called "La Nicaragüita".  It was during the 2006 community service trip that the idea of U-Nica was conceived. Throughout the weeks that George School students helped teach and makes repairs at La Nicaragüita, trip leaders Cheri Mellor and Pauline Forest witnessed many families struggling with economic hardships.  In fact, it is primarily due to economic factors that many children either cannot attend school or are at risk of not being able to continue with their education.

La Nicaragüita

Located in Nicaragua's capital city, La Nicaragüita is a private school that educates children from the ages of 3-17, from pre-school through high school.  With your help, U-Nica makes it possible for economically disadvantaged children, who would not otherwise be able to attend school, to receive an education.  Sponsorship funds are used to cover tuition and other associated educational costs; such as materials, books and uniforms.
